 "Good product, but misses some bits" 2010-04-13

Great product for its price as long as you know what you are looking for. I decided to return mine when a few things I was expecting turned out to be missing (not explicitly clear from product description). I will possibly opt for another similar NIX model with the features, and only bit more expensive



Pros -

True 800x600 resolution. Much better than lower resolutions in some bigger brand models

8" size is way more viewable than 7" models coming at a similar price point

Good looking frame with reasonably sturdy build

Can show videos (mpeg4) and play mp3 in the background

Support stand behind folds away fully to give a flat form factor



Cons -

No internal memory. It can show pics out of SD card/USB stick that has to stay with the frame

Does not have the calendar/clock feature seen in other NIX models

Does not have internal battery

User manual has basic mistakes - however, NIX support did respond quickly to email queries with clarifications and apologies

Menu navigation can be improved - misses features like sorting the slideshow based on date photo was taken



For me the first 2 cons above can be rectified by opting for another similar NIX model -

Personally I am willing to pay the excess as having to buy an SD card for the frame nearly balances out. Using a USB pen drive as frame memory means something sticks out of the frame. I think the clock/calendar feature is also worth it.



Sound product nevertheless - recommend this model too if you are fine with the above.

Previously bought 8" Nix digital frame. Very pleased with product especially as it had rechargeable battery so it could be hand held and passed around. This frame is almost identical but without battery but £20 cheaper. You get what you pay for. Both come with hand held remote control. Very pleased with both Nix frames.

I already have the nix 8 inch frame with a battery, but i wanted a second frame that was more affordable and i didn't need a battery for the second model. So i got this version from the same brand as they seem to make nice screens. This version is simple, slim, plays video and photos and the photos look crystal clear.

I bought this product for Christmas for my 80+ Mum who hasn't the best eye sight, the idea being I could put pictures on from our spread out family. It appealed as it said it would work automatically when the USB stick was inserted, all Mum had to do was switch it on. Well, it didn't and even more, the menu option didn't respond to pressing the buttons on the top of the unit, so I couldn't set it manually.

It was a shame as the picture quality was fairly good and I liked the way it scrolled and turned the pictures.

Disappointing.

I found this product good value for money. The quality of the images displayed is not fantastic, but they are okay (although a little pixelated at times), and the effects in the slideshow are good. It often stretches the images slightly, but for the price it costs - it's still very good for what you yet, and probably not too far behind the mid-market priced products.

This product shows that you get what you pay for. I bought it as a present for my parents who are complete technophobes and I therefore wanted something straightforward. This machine is that, put in the USB stick, plug it in and the pictures are scrolling through. However the product claims to offer a number of other more sophisticated functions, which admittedly my parents would never use, that don't seem to function. I am not sure if this machine is faulty or that is what you get for a cheap product, either way it doesn't matter because it does the job that it is intended to do.

This was first digital frame ever bought. Comes with convenient hand held remote control and the rechargeable battery allows it to be hand held and passed around without attached cables. Picture quality is fine but when compared side by side with Sony not as brilliant. However Nix is a lot cheaper and the better buy.

Just received the nix TSO7E Digital photo frames, first immpressions very favourable. The picture quality is excellent, instructions are very good and easy to follow. Main priority was the internal Rechargeable battery so that I could take it with a range of photos of our family and pets, to my mother who is in a Nursing Home. To early to establish how long the battery will last on full charge. All in all very pleased.

This is my second Digital Photo Frame. The first I purchased from Jessops and it worked fine but the image quality was pretty poor and it only ran off the mains. I had mentioned this to my very perceptive girlfriend who obviously went off and did her research. When Valentine's Day came, she presented me with this Nix frame. On arrival, I was delighted to see that instantly, the frame and its detachable stand look far superior to other frames with the fat battery pack stuck on. The 2GB Memory was plenty. Though the internal battery doesn't last as long as I had hoped, it's still a great novelty to be able to remove the frame from the mains ocassionally, especially if you need to quickly connect it to your laptop or something. Most importantly, the 500 JPEG's I had stored on my SD card tranferred easily across after having done it via my PC which was pretty straightforward - the image quality is top class.

superb quality hi-resolution image and i love the split screen option showing several photos at once . and you just can't beat having a frame though with an internal battery. the styling is good and the auto rotate sensor is useful. My gripe with this frame though is it would be cool to have music playing at the same time, but no music function. I previously had the standard resolution of this frame which was fine, but i am happy now that i've traded up to the hi res version.

I got this for my office, as I don't need anything fancy, and it was cheap. The interface is a little slow and clunky, and the manual doesn't tell you everything (neither can I find information online). However, with a bit of persistence through the settings, you can at least set it up reasonably. Screen is low res, but not bad for a cheap frame. Overall I like it, but would look for a more flexible, and generally higher spec model for home use.



Things I'd like that I'm not sure it gives me:



Power on without ringing the annoying alarm sound.(?)

Being able to set the default time between images.

A simple randomize function.



Pros:

It's pretty, and quite stylish.

Ok, well mine just arrived... And it's really great. I have a minor gripe in that the remote sometimes requires the buttons to be pressed more than once as the Infra Red really needs to be pointing at the frame, but apart from that it's great.

I had an 10" photo frame, but very suprised to receive this 12", it's much bigger than my 10" frame. It's like a painting hanging on the wall. Very good quality, sharp and clear picture, remote control. Also can play music & videos, impressed. It has the random/shuffle function to display pictures, the one cool new feature I see on the market. Now it's hanging on the wall and all photos are much bigger to watch.. very satisfied with the value for the money paid.

these digital photo frames are such good gifts. I've already bought a few for friends and family, but when it came to getting one for nan i knew i needed something she would be able to see as her eyesight just ain't what it used to be. she's always complained about the 7 inch frame we have at home and is convinced that it's a conspiracy by the manufacturers to make frames too small for old people to see properly. so we got this for her and mounted it on the wall in her living room. seems to do lost of things fairly easily, and she seems able to control it easily enough with the remote control.

I actually bought this as a gift, so not using it. So cannot comment on the clarity and we'll need to wait and watch how long it last...

Still trying to get auto turn on and off working. I'm sure it is very straightforward!!!!

Remote control excellent makes viewing photos easy with use of zoom and fast forward/backward and settings controls.

I have not used the music with my frame - my choice.



Overall very pleased with quality and ease of loading photos.

This is a great frame. I bought it to replace a broken Kodak frame which I had been using continuously (that's right - never switched it off). I kept it in my work room, filled a memory stick with as many photos as I could (hundreds) and just left the frame on to continuously display them. This really brought the pictures to life to the continual enjoyment of friends and family who walked into the room.



This Nix frame is ideal if you're thinking of using it this way (I'm sure it's great if used in different ways too). It switches off after you leave a room, and, as soon as you come back in, the motion sensor kicks in and it picks up the slide show from where it previously left off. This feature plus the optional random setting is essential if, like me, you like to be surprised by the next picture to be displayed.



Oh, and I almost forgot; the picture quality is superb and it plays your videos too.



I have a couple of small quibbles which prevent me from rating it at a full five stars. First, the front of the screen is highly reflective (unlike my previous Kodak frame). This means you have to carefully site the frame to avoid irritating reflections. Second, the menu behaviour is not entirely obvious and is not well documented though it eventually becomes apparent with some patient experimenting.



Definitely recommended.

Pleasantly surprised by this frame. I once purchased a 7 inch nix frame for my aunt and we were both impressed by it's quality and features. So when I decided to buy one for myself wanted something larger and looked at this frame. The features looked impressive and I especially liked the motion sensor concept. Though there were some mixed reviews I decided to take a leap and bought this knowing I could return it if I wanted.



I'm pleased to say that it all works advertised and is still going strong. Basic list of what's good and what's not:



Good things:



1. Big bright screen. So clear in fact you can't see any pixels and the image is bright and glossy.

2. Nice size internal memory

3. simple to use remote control, that allows just one touch to play either photo's video or music

4. the random display seems to work fine

5. last, but not least the motion sensor really is a neat trick. Once set up I no longer need to even switch it on as advertised. It just senses when I come home from work and the photos just pop up! Also it saves energy only being on when I'm about.



Not so good things:



1. I wish the frame had the same design styling as the 7 inch and 8 inch models with the touch controls. I did email nix to ask if they made a 10 inch version of the TS07E, but they said that one won't be out for until Christmas 2010.

2. internal memory not as big as the 7 inch model

I love the motion sensor on this. I can record a quick video message on my camera and then just leave the memory stick in the frame. then when the kids get home there's a video message waiting for them and it comes on as soon as the frame senses them nearby in the kitchen - how funky! aside from this whizz widget though the screen is crisp and clear and the other features seem to work well.
